Gonda is a major district of the Awadh region, known for its religious, historical, and agricultural significance. The Prithvinath Temple situated in the district and the nearby Parsapur area are culturally important. Gonda also has a distinct identity as a major centre for the production of paddy, sugarcane, and wheat. Under the One District One Cuisine Programme, Kachori and Dahi Bada have been selected for Gonda district.

Influenced by the Awadhi tradition, spicy and crispy Kachori prepared with urad dal and potatoes is extremely popular as a traditional dish in Gonda. The dish also reflects the district’s local agriculture and rich spice culture. More than 400 people are employed across over 100 units engaged in this industry.

Itiyathok’s Dahi Vadas, from Gonda district, are known for their soft texture, fresh curd, and distinctive blend of spices. Traditionally prepared using urad dal, these vadas are served in thick, creamy curd that enhances their flavour. The combination of traditional spices, thick curd, and serving in earthen pots gives Itiyathok’s Dahi Vadas a distinctive identity.
